From the information on his daughter Mary’s marriage to Patrick Cassidy, we know
that James Green was a carrier foreman and that he was deceased by 1884, when
Mary married.

Mary’s mother was Margaret Green, nee Burns and she also was deceased by 1884.
Children of James and Mary Green:

John Green
– would have been born sometime before 1860, he must have married before
1879 when his son James Joseph was born in Dublin |
 |
Mary Green,
born in Omagh according to 1891 census between 1861 and 1864 (age varies
on different census entries), married Patrick Cassidy in 1884 |

William and Mary Jane Adamthwaite
One
of William and Mary Jane’s sons, George, fought in
the Australian army as a
soldier in WW1; he was injured in
France
in June 1917 and he convalesced in
England
. The photo below was taken by a J. Fairclough in Crook, Co Durham.
George left
England
to return to
Australia
at the end of September, 1917. He would have been about 21 at the time.
George
is on the left in his Australian army uniform, but do you know who the other two
men in the photo could be?
According to 1851 census, Robert
was born about 1795 at Kendal. IGI
has no Robert born about this time (although there was one in 1814 and one in
1818 – visit to Record Office
required to trace his birth and parents. However, the most likely couple
to be his parents are Robert Carter (acc to IGI, born about 1754 in Barnard
Castle) and Hannah Pearson, who married in 1779 in Kirkby Stephen.
It
seems likely that Robert Carter’s first marriage was to Mary Steel, on 25 Jan
1820 at Kirkby Stephen (source IGI)
[check
parish records].
According to IGI, they had six children, all baptised in Kirkby Stephen,
between 1821 and 1834, four of whom were living close to the Carter family in
the 1841 census.
[check
parish records and look for burial of Robert’s first wife]
Robert Carter married Mary Dobson 11 Feb
1835 in Kirkby Stephen, Westmorland.
[check parish record]
find
death of Robert Carter
Mary
Dobson – wife of Robert Carter
From
census information and her death certificate, she would have been born about
1811; Mary gives her place of birth variously as Kendal, Kaber and Crook. A
Mary Dobson was chr 29 aug 1811 in Kendal, parents William Dobson and Elizabeth
(Laycock?) (source IGI).
[check parish records]
After
Robert’s death in 1864, Mary moved to Co Durham, where she was living with her
son Thomas in 1871 and her grandson
William in 1881.
Mary
Carter died on 16 Mar 1889 at 17 Victoria St, Crook.
She was aged 78 years and describd as the widow of Robert Carter, farm
labourer.
The cause of death was enteritis (21 days) certified by W MacDonnell
