William Thomas (Bill) Johnson (1894-1968)

Born 21.12.1894 at 2 Pound Street, Thame, Oxfordshire. Father was William Johnson, general labourer, mother was Nora Johnson, late Williams, formerly O’Shaugnessy (source Birth Certificate)

His full name William Thomas A’Beckett Aloysius Johnson.

Married to Kathleen Dearl at Catholic Church in Clontarf Castle, Dublin (?about 1916)

During WW1, Bill Johnson served in the Royal Marines and received injuries in action at Gallipoli. The family moved from Oxford to Port Talbot where he was employed as an engine driver a Treherbert and then Duffryn Yard where he worked for 48 years. He was an outstanding cricketer and played for the Port Talbot Railway Team. He was for many years chairman and trainer of the Duffryn Yard soccer team.

Bill Johnson died on 19^th Jan 1968, aged 72 years.

Kathleen Dearl (1897-1972) (pictured below with Anne)

Kath Dearl was born in March1897 in Clontarf, Dublin and lived in Brian Boru Street. In about 1916 she was married to William Thomas Johnson and they lived in Oxford. After Annie was born in 1920, the family moved to Blodwen Street in Port Talbot, South Wales, where the couple raised their family and enjoyed a good social life - Bill with his football and cricket and Kath Johnson was captain of the Great Western Railway Social Club in Port Talbot, and loved playing whist and darts.

She died 15 September 1972 in Neath, widow of William Thomas Johnson, locomotive driver, of 25 Blodwen Street, Port Talbot. (source death certificate)
