the Mastel and Appleby families

Fifth Generation (4 x Great Grandparents)

Francis Nay

Born before 1761     (have checked St Leonards baptisms back from 1761 to 1740 and only Nay birth was Frances, daughter of Lewis and Esther Nay born in 1756 – however, parts of records very damaged.  I did wonder if the Frances was an error and should have been Francis, but a Frances Nay married Thomas Aitken in 1786 at St Dunstans (source IGI)  Also checked St Matthew Bethnal Green baptisms from 1746 to 1790)

[try other Bethnal Green and Shoreditch churches]

Married Ann Stevens 13 may 1778 at St Leonards in Shoreditch.  Both Francis and Ann were ‘of this parish’ and the witnesses were Thomas Stevens and Lewis Nay.   (source Parish Records)

Children of Francis and Ann Nay:

Ann Stevens

Checked St Leonards for possible births between 1740 and 1761 – only came across one who was born 20 feb 1754, chr 24 feb 1754 at St Leonards, Shoreditch, father John Stevens, mother Ann. (source Parish Records)

However, there are quite a few Ann Stevens listed in area on family search, in particular a possible one is

Ann Stevens, chr 11 jul 1760 at St Botulph Bishopsgate, dau of George and Elizabeth Stevens.

George and Elizabeth Stevens also appear to have had at least two other children – Thomas chr in 1746 and George christened in 1741 – both at St Andrew Holborn.  Could the Thomas be the one who witnesses Ann’s marriage to Francis Nay in 1778 and also that of Lewis Nay  to Sarah Larkens in 1777?.

[check St Botulph and St Andrews]
