Joseph Snary

Born about 1764, probably in Bristol. [look for birth]

Married to Ann Morris at Philip & Jacob -

"Joseph Sneary of this Parish & Ann Morris of the same married by Banns published Apr 27th, May 4th & 11th this 17th day of August 1783 by me Thomas Bawm Curate" (source parish records J&JS)

Joseph Snary died on 15 May 1845 at Narrow Plain, St Paul’s Bristol, aged 81 years, occupation butcher.  The cause of death was asthma and the death was reported by Catherine Beauvoir, in attendance, of Narrow Plain. [source death certificate 1845 jun Bristol 11,143]

 

Ann Morris (Joseph Snary’s first wife)

Born before 1765  [look for birth]

Married to Joseph Snary

Ann (Morris) Snary died in 1805 and was buried 26 jun 1805 at St Phillip & St Jacob, Bristol. (J&JS)

 

Joseph may then have married Hannah Price at Winterbourne Gloucs on 29 sep 1805 (Parish Records – Joseph was from St P&J -I from J&JS).  Hannah Snary died in 1835 and was buried on 30th October 1835 at St Philip and Jacob – she was aged 72 (source transcription of burials at Ss Philip and Jacob, published by Bristol and Avon FHS – thanks to PH)

Joseph then appears to have married Sarah Davis on 1 May 1836  (Br Is Vital Records, LDS, J&JS). Sarah Snary died sep qtr 1860 Bristol, 6a, 15  (source (J&JS)

In the 1841 census  [HO107/0378 f24] :

  • Joseph Snary, 75, butcher – living at Narrow Plain, Bristol St Philip

  • Sarah, 65

 

Known Children of Joseph and Ann Snary:

Isaac Snary, bap at St Philip and St Jacob in 1801

Ann Snary, bap 16 jan 1791 Bristol (source IGI)

Did Joseph also have a son John, born in about 1803 who became a butcher and who was the father of John Snary the butcher who married Louisa Warren in 1838?
